The Town of Independence Town Council approved several measures during a meeting held on June 10, 2026, including a new wildland fire cooperative agreement and budget amendments, according to a report published August 13.
During the meeting, the council unanimously approved the Wildland Fire Cooperative Agreement between the Town of Independence and the Utah Division of Forestry Fire and State Lands. Jodi Hoffman explained that the agreement requires municipalities to report improvements made to prevent wildland fires, such as tree trimming, road improvements, and new building fire codes. This follows a period where the Wasatch County Fire Department handled required reporting for municipalities within Wasatch County.
The council also unanimously passed Resolution 2026-02, which adopts an amendment to the FY2025-2026 Town Budget and the proposed FY2026-2027 Town Budget. The amendments included adding $5,000 for public outreach and increasing Sales Tax revenue by $5,000.
Regarding infrastructure, staff reported that specifications are being awaited from Horrocks Engineering for the Little Sweden Road and Duke Lane road improvement project. Once the bid package is finalized, the project will be advertised for bids. Additionally, improvements to cell towers at Daniels Summit are continuing.
The meeting concluded with the council wishing Councilmember Gary Ryan luck on new endeavors and thanking him for his years of service to the town. The meeting adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
