The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has released his third solo album, titled Thrasher, which focuses on his childhood in Nephi, Utah. According to an August 21 report by NME, the 45-year-old musician recorded the project in Nashville to explore an evolution of his craft through an old-school country sound.
The album serves as a personal narrative, moving away from the indie rock and electro-pop styles of his previous works. Flowers noted that he felt ready to tell the previously untold stories of his upbringing. The record features an all-star cast of legendary players and includes tracks such as Does It Ever Cross Your Mind and One Of Us.
Some songs on the album draw on specific memories, such as Tiger’s Blood, which references a Kodak memory, and Paradise, which touches on Flowers' former dream of working as a casino valet. The track American Dream features The Killers' drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. and involves a surreal retelling of a dream about the end of his life.
Thrasher is released via Island Records. While the album deviates from the arena rock associated with The Killers, the review suggests it highlights Flowers' growth as a storyteller through the country genre.
