A man died after being shot by two armed bystanders inside a Riverton convenience store after he returned to the location carrying a shotgun, according to police.
The shooting occurred at the Holiday convenience store located at the Chevron off 12600 South in Riverton.
Investigators stated that the man entered the store and demanded alcohol. The clerk refused the sale because the man did not have identification. After a confrontation with the clerk, two bystanders attempted to calm the situation.
Authorities said the man left the store, entered his vehicle, drove around the parking lot, and returned carrying a shotgun. The two armed bystanders fired, striking the man inside the store. The man walked into the parking lot, where he died from his injuries.
The two bystanders remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation. No one else was injured.
Riverton police later corrected earlier information regarding the incident. While police initially stated the man fired his shotgun, they later clarified that the man was armed with a shotgun but did not fire it. According to police, the man did not have the opportunity to fire the weapon before being shot by the bystanders.
