The Salt Lake City Fire Department advised the public to avoid Orange Street because fire apparatus and water lines were in the area, resulting in restricted travel.
In a public service announcement issued on September 8, officials stated they were not aware of specific hazardous materials concerns related to the incident. However, the department noted that breathing smoke of any kind is not recommended.
For individuals in areas affected by smoke, the Salt Lake City Fire Department recommended staying indoors or in a vehicle with windows and doors closed when possible.
Other recommendations included using an air purifier or high-quality air filter if available, or wearing a properly fitted N95 respirator if it is necessary to be outside.
