A new IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon is scheduled to debut on Aug. 21, 2027, in Orem and Provo Canyon, according to a Oct. 20 report.
The event will serve as a qualifier for the 2028 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship race.
The triathlon will begin with a 1.2-mile swim in Deer Creek Reservoir. Following the swim, athletes will complete a 56-mile bike ride that concludes at Orem’s Scera Park. The race will then move to a 13.1-mile out-and-back run located along the Provo River Parkway Trail, finishing at Orem City Center Park.
Orem Mayor Karen McCandless stated in a news release that the city is excited to welcome IRONMAN athletes and their families to the community. She noted that few places offer the combination of natural beauty and community spirit found in Utah County.
Todd Fitzgerald, a regional director for the event, said Orem was an attractive choice due to its existing infrastructure, local support, and natural beauty. Fitzgerald stated his belief that Orem has the ingredients to become a premier IRONMAN 70.3 destination in North America.
County Commissioner Skyler Beltran said the race is a testament to the growing sports economy and the emergence of Utah County as a premier destination for sporting events.
Beltran stated he is thrilled to welcome IRONMAN to Utah County to showcase the hospitality of the people and the beauty of the mountains to visitors and athletes from around the world.
