Salt Lake County is seeking host agencies for the 2027 Most Vulnerable Populations AmeriCorps Program, according to a August 21 statement. The program focuses on capacity building in areas of economic opportunity and health access to support vulnerable populations.
The program seeks to place AmeriCorps members in community organizations to assist individuals and families at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness. Other groups served include those fleeing domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking, as well as refugees, youth, and individuals involved in the criminal justice system.
AmeriCorps members provide services such as healthcare assistance, job placement, housing support, and volunteer recruitment. The program is designed to meet internship requirements, making it an opportunity for students in fields such as sociology, social work, public health, and psychology.
Salt Lake County's Office of Homelessness and Criminal Justice Reform is soliciting applications for the program year beginning in January 2027. Available slots include 12-month half-time terms consisting of 900 hours, or 18-20 hours per week.
Host agencies can receive support from the Salt Lake County AmeriCorps Director for recruitment and member management. Members receive a bi-weekly living allowance and may be eligible for the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award upon successful completion of their service term.
The application period is scheduled from September 1, 2026, through September 30, 2026. A program information session is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. via Webex.
