Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill announced charges on Aug. 27 related to a fatal shooting that occurred outside a funeral in Kearns on Aug. 17, 2026.
Murder charges have been filed against 17-year-old Taitusi Kai Manatau, who is being charged as an adult, and his 45-year-old father, Afuhia Masiu Manatau.
The victim of the shooting was identified as 18-year-old Vilisoni Angilau.
Authorities allege that Afuhia Masiu Manatau provided a gun to his son. Taitusi Kai Manatau was also shot during the incident and was charged after being released from the hospital.
Taitusi Kai Manatau faces charges of murder, two counts of felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, and obstruction of justice.
Afuhia Masiu Manatau faces charges of murder, two counts of discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, prohibited dangerous weapon conduct, four counts of aggravated assault, and failure to respond to officers' signal to stop.
Two other individuals, 19-year-olds Haneli Grall and Tevita Siope Tonga Kofe, have each been charged with second-degree felony obstruction of justice.
According to online court records, Tevita Siope Tonga Kofe is being held at the Salt Lake County jail without bail, while Haneli Grall's bail is set at $10,000. Afuhia Manatau is also being held without bail at the Salt Lake County jail.
