The Cache County Council will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, to discuss and potentially take action regarding proposed changes to the 2026 Cache County Budget, according to a September 15 notice.
The hearing is scheduled for approximately 5:30 p.m. at the Cache County Historic Courthouse in the County Council Chambers, located at 199 N. Main St. in Logan.
The proposed budget amendments include several departmental requests for fund reallocations and additional resources. In the Attorney department, officials requested to reallocate $20,000 from part-time employees and education and training to professional and technical services to retain expert witnesses for upcoming jury trials.
The Fire Department requested several adjustments, including the reallocation of $8,505 in grant funds from the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands for wildland personal protective equipment. Other fire-related requests include reallocating $2,600 in donated funds for station facility improvements and $16,500 in grant funds to support paramedic staffing capacity through overtime.
In the Sheriff's Office, requests include allocating $100,000 in additional revenues for fuel and $30,200 to fund six new lease payments for vehicles. The department also requested to record the capitalization of six new vehicles totaling $308,000.
Public Works submitted several requests, including $1,250 for overtime due to changing duties for the Facility Maintenance Manager and $68,000 for improvements to the Event Center for USU Extension. Additional requests included funds for first aid supplies, maintenance for the Historic Courthouse and other facilities, and $1,500 for replacement mobile devices for vegetation management.
The Treasurer requested $21,500 for a full-time position to facilitate training before employee retirement. The Senior Center requested funds to record revenue and expenses for the Utah Division of Arts & Museums Creative Aging Grant.
Other significant amendments include $125,000 for a tractor barn construction via the American West Heritage Center and $200,000 for new auditorium seating for the Lyric Repertory Company.
The proposed amendments involve various tax funds, including Restaurant Tax, RAPZ Tax, and FG Transportation Tax. Detailed information regarding the proposed budgetary changes is available on the Cache County website at https://www.cachecounty.gov/news/.
The Cache County Council is scheduled to vote on these amendments during the same hearing on Sept. 22, 2026.
