The Eagle Mountain City Stormwater Department and the Unified Fire Authority (UFA) Wildland Division will be working together on a brush mitigation project near Pony Express Parkway from Monday, October 5, through Thursday, October 8.

The project area is located in Tickville Wash just east of UFA Station 252 and north of Smith Ranch Regional Park. The area was selected because of the amount of brush and invasive vegetation in the area and its location within the wildland-urban interface.

UFA crews will remove several invasive plant species, including phragmites, tamarisk and Russian olive. Some naturally occurring vegetation, including willow, may also be removed when needed to reduce fire risk.

Crews will leave sage, rabbit brush, sumac and aspen trees in place. UFA crews will review plant identification before beginning the project to help ensure the appropriate vegetation is removed.

Protecting water quality and controlling erosion are also important parts of the project. Cut vegetation will be brought to the Pony Express Parkway trail area and chipped. The wood chips will be placed on City property near the project area and will not be placed in the waterway or on private property.

Dates: Monday, October 5 through Thursday, October 8

Work hours: 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM

Residents may see City and UFA crews and equipment in the area while the work is underway.

The City and UFA may also coordinate additional treatment of some invasive plant stumps after the project to help prevent regrowth.
