The Organizing Committee for the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games announced a series of organizational changes following a virtual board meeting on June 16, 2026. The restructuring includes new leadership roles designed to support the committee's transition from a startup organization into a large-scale operation.
New Leadership Appointment
Abby Osborne will join the Utah 2034 team on August 1, 2026, as the vice president of impact, engagement, and enterprise operations. Osborne, who has served as chief of staff for the Utah House of Representatives since 2019, will relinquish her current board membership to take the full-time position, according to a press release from Utah 2034.
Osborne's New Responsibilities
In her new role, Osborne will oversee sustainability, legacy initiatives, communications, and community relations. The committee stated that Osborne will be responsible for scaling functions to support a team that is expected to include thousands of staff and volunteers by the 2034 Games.
Darren Hughes Role Transition
The committee also announced that Darren Hughes has transitioned from vice president of operations and planning to the role of vice president of games delivery. Hughes, an international games advisor who has worked on every Winter Games since 2002, will focus his efforts on leading all aspects of Games planning and delivery.
New Athlete Experience Coordinator
Two-time Olympic short track speed skater Julie Letai has been appointed as the new athlete experience coordinator. Letai, who competed in the Beijing and Milano Cortina Games, will use her background to support planning and ensure athlete engagement during the organizing process.
CEO Statement on Restructuring
CEO Brad Wilson stated that the changes were made to best support the committee's work as it prepares for the 2034 Winter Games. Wilson noted that the new leadership structure is intended to build both culture and capability as the organization grows.
