The Garden City Fire District Board held a meeting on March 20, 2014, to address several administrative and maintenance items. The meeting included discussions regarding the employee manual, station building improvements, and emergency repairs required for a water leak.
During the meeting, board members discussed updates to policies and procedures, specifically regarding leave, per diem, and holidays. Randall stated work was underway on the employee section of the manual, though formatting issues remained. The board debated whether to combine vacation and sick leave or keep them separate. Christina Gracey expressed concerns regarding the current wording of Section 5-01(4) and suggested changes to how hours are carried forward. The board decided to add the manual rewrite to items for follow-up.
Regarding station maintenance, Mike Wahlberg reported on a building interior remodel, noting that savings from window inspections might allow for new cabinetry in the meeting room and offices. Additionally, a water leak in front of the bays required the station water to be shut off. Because the repair could damage new concrete and asphalt, the board discussed potential budget amendments. Due to the emergency nature of the situation, Lutz was selected for the repairs.
Equipment updates included the repair of Engine 40 and the replacement of a trailing arm on the suspension of Rescue 40. Four new tires were ordered for Rescue 40. The board also noted that AEDs ordered previously had been received. Other business included a notice from the DNR that approximately $15,000 in grant funds for PPE reimbursement was expected to be released within two weeks.
The board noted that a wild land course was underway and would continue through April 30. The next meeting was scheduled for May 15, 2014, at 6:00 P.M. in the training room at the Garden City Fire Station.
