$700,000 delivered to combat future disasters in Utah
Last week, FEMA announced the approval of more than $700,000 in funding under the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program in Utah. FEMA programs like BRIC empower states, local communities, tribes and territories to create more resilient, safer communities and to protect infrastructure from future events.

Larry Kay Shubert, age 85, passed away peacefully in his home Aug. 27, 2026. He was born April 17, 1941, in Tooele, Utah, to Albert and Ellen Shubert. Larry was the youngest of five children, growing up alongside his two brothers and two sisters.

Tooele Education Foundation distributes weekend meal kits with help of LDS Church
Each school year, the Tooele County School District distributes approximately 10,000 weekend meal kits to students facing food insecurity at home. Each kit costs about $4 to assemble and contains two hot meals, two breakfasts, two to three snacks, and one to two drinks.

Tooele County communities come together to remember lives lost to overdose
Members of the community gathered at the Stansbury Park Clubhouse on the evening of Monday, Aug. 31, to remember those lost to substance abuse during National Overdose Awareness Day. During the event, there was naloxone training, booths with community resources, a memory wall to honor those lost, food trucks, music, and a moment of silence.
