A new mural titled A World in Bloom has transformed the Childcare Room at the South Salt Lake Community Center. The commissioned piece, created by local artist Trevor Dahl, turns the room into a vibrant mountain nature-scape designed to encourage engagement and imagination in young children.
According to a notice from South Salt Lake Arts and Promise South Salt Lake, the mural features bold shapes, relatable animals, and hand-drawn lines. Dahl, who has experience as an early-childhood Montessori teacher, intentionally designed the artwork to foster a sense of human connection. The artist color-matched the mural to the room's existing carpets, toys, and the trees located outside to create a cohesive environment.
The artwork serves as an interactive activity for children, inviting them to find specific details such as a ladybug with four spots, raindrops, eggs in a nest, or berries on a tree. Dahl stated that his goal was to use simplified, welcoming imagery to help young residents recognize symbols and feel inspired to create.
The mural is located in the Childcare Room of the South Salt Lake Community Center. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
