Firefighters are currently working to control multiple fires in the Spokane area of northeastern Washington. Crews on the scene are facing challenges due to critical fire weather and the need to share resources across several rapidly growing fires.
The Spokane Complex currently comprises three separate fires: the Old Trails Fire, which has reached 3,509 acres; the Fairview Fire, covering 981 acres; and the Autumn Lane Fire, covering 900 acres. The total size of the complex is 5,390 acres, and containment is currently at 0 percent.
Evacuation orders have been issued for various zones. Level 3 GO! evacuations are in effect for multiple areas including Old Trails zones 1 through 12, Autumn zones 13, 14, 16, 118, 20, 21, 22, 24, 27, and 28, and Fairview zones 5, 15, and 17. Level 2 Set evacuations are in effect for Old Trails zone 10 and Autumn zones 25 and 26.
State mobilization and additional resources have been requested for the Old Trails Fire. The California Complex Incident Management Team 7 is scheduled to assume command of the fire on August 2nd at 0900.
Evacuation shelters have been established for those displaced by the fires. An evacuation shelter for the Old Trails Fire is open at the Spokane Convention Center located at 334 W. Spokane Falls Boulevard, Spokane, WA 99201. This location offers free parking and allows pets.
For those displaced by the Fairview Fire, an evacuation center is located at Northwood Middle School. An animal shelter is open at the Spokane County Fairgrounds, which also has RV grounds available for evacuating animals. In south Stevens County, a Red Cross Shelter is available at Jenkins High School in Chewelah.
