The Salt Lake City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, to consider an ordinance that would vacate portions of two city-owned alleys, according to a September 1 notice.
The proposed legislation involves alleys located near 2553 South Chadwick Street, 2554 South Dearborn Street, and 1407-1445 East Stratford Avenue within Council District 7.
The hearing is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and will allow for public comment. The meeting will be held via electronic means and in person at City Hall, located at 451 South State Street, Room 315.
If approved, the alleys would be divided and allocated to adjacent property owners. One alley runs from Chadwick Street to Dearborn Street and measures 12 feet wide by 262 feet long. The second alley, located along the east property line, is 12 feet wide and 51 feet long.
The notice states that accessory buildings currently encroach on the alleyway and most abutting properties have used the alley as their own. Five properties use the north-to-south alley that is accessed from Parkway Avenue. The petition was submitted by Anne and Zach Taylor under petition number PLNPCM2026-00073.
The public may review the proposed legislation using file number Z 20260123. Physical copies are available at the Salt Lake City Recorder's Office, and electronic versions can be found at https://tinyurl.com/proposedleg.
