Park City resident David Staley has transitioned into a new normal following an HPV-related tonsil cancer diagnosis. After experiencing jaw tightness, throat tightness, and changes to his singing voice, an evaluation confirmed the cancer diagnosis.
Staley, an avid skier, musician, and singer, utilized music as a source of comfort during his recovery. He arranged his chemotherapy infusions so he could continue playing the guitar while receiving treatment.
During his medical journey, Staley received support from a medical team including physicians, radiation specialists, nurses, and technicians. He expressed gratitude for the kindness and encouragement provided by his care team, stating the experience was as good as he could have hoped for.
Community support played a vital role in Staley's experience. Family, friends, and neighbors assisted with meals and rides to appointments. Staley noted that accepting help is essential when facing cancer.
