All City of Moab buildings will close to the public at the end of business on Friday, March 13, as a health and safety measure to limit COVID-19 risk. Moab City Manager Joel Linares stated that the city is taking this preventive measure in response to social distancing recommendations from the State of Utah and the Centers for Disease Control.
Despite the building closures, the City will continue to conduct business. Residents and those needing to interact with City Hall or its tenants are requested to use provided telephone numbers for various departments.
City officials emphasized that the goal of the closure is to limit person-to-person exposure for both residents and staff. To maintain services, several departments have established contact lines, including Administration, Business Licensing, Utilities, Communications, Code Compliance, Police Dispatch, Animal Shelter, Planning, Film Commission, Engineering, Recorder, Treasurer, Finance, Building Inspection, Public Works, MRAC, Recreation, MARC, AP&P, and SITLA.
Regarding local parks, the City noted that while parks remain open, all playgrounds, restrooms, and drinking fountains are closed. The city is also in the process of canceling park reservations for groups exceeding 10 attendees and will not accept new reservations for a period of 30 days.
The City of Moab will provide ongoing updates through its official website and Facebook page. Residents are encouraged to follow health guidelines, such as maintaining six feet of distance and staying home as much as possible, particularly those over the age of 60 or with underlying health conditions.
