Brighton High School utilized the Skyward Arena Scheduling system to allow students to build their own class schedules. By selecting courses and sections in real time, the system provided students with flexibility and responsibility in creating schedules that fit their academic goals and personal preferences.
The Arena Scheduling window was open from August 5 at 3:00 pm until August 9 at 10:00 pm. All grade levels had access to the system at the same time.
Officials noted that if a required class was full, students could check back periodically to see if a spot opened. Counselors were unable to place students into classes that had reached capacity. In cases where two requested classes were scheduled at the same time, students were required to choose one and select a different class for the other spot.
Certain courses did not have a minimum number of available periods or seats, meaning enrollment was not guaranteed. Additionally, students could not be enrolled in both the (a) and (b) halves of the same class during the same trimester; one half had to be moved to either the first or third trimester.
To add a TA class or education release, students were required to complete and submit specific paperwork to their counselor. Educational release forms allowed for time off campus during the school day, but release time could not be added to schedules until approved by a parent. To become a TA, students had to visit the counseling center to check teacher availability and pick up a form.
