The Skyridge High School girls tennis team earned a berth in the 6A state tournament after an upset victory over No. 2 seeded Corner Canyon in the Region 3 semifinals. The Falcons, who entered the tournament as the third seed, eventually fell to No. 1 Lone Peak in the final to finish second overall.
In the semifinal match held on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Skyridge, the Falcons defeated Corner Canyon 5-2. Several players contributed to the victory, including sophomore Maezie Oswald, who won at No. 3 Singles 6-1, 6-1, and senior Molly Jarvie, who won at No. 4 Singles 6-3, 6-2. Senior Libby Ludlow secured a three-set victory at No. 2 Singles with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Sophomore Kiri Sperry reached three sets at No. 1 Singles before falling 6-4, 1-6, 6-4. Additionally, senior Addison Uffens and sophomore Kate Jarvie won at No. 3 Doubles 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, while sophomores Anabelle Rowley and Chloe Barker won at No. 1 Doubles in three sets.
Lone Peak won the Region 3 final on Friday, Sept. 25, with a score of 6-1. Skyridge's lone victory in the final came from the No. 3 Doubles pairing of Kate Jarvie and Maezie Oswald, who defeated Maude Darby and Scarlet Patterson 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 0-0 (10-2).
The UHSAA will release the 6A state bracket on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m., which will identify Skyridge's seeding and first-round opponent. The 6A play-in round is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, at 8 a.m. at Brighton High School, located at 2220 E. Bengal Blvd. in Cottonwood Heights.
Championship rounds are scheduled to take place on Thursday, Oct. 8, and Saturday, Oct. 10, at 9 a.m. at the Liberty Park Tennis Center, located at 1105 S. Constitution Dr. in Salt Lake City.
