The Salt Lake County Library is preparing a series of seasonal community events at its Sandy branch for October 2026, headlined by a Halloween festival and various hands-on arts and crafts workshops. These programming offerings, which include activities for all ages, follow a schedule of community gatherings held earlier in the month.
Halloween Festivities Scheduled
The Sandy branch will host a Halloween Festival and Spook Alley on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. According to the Salt Lake County Library, the event will take place in the Sandy Large Meeting Room and is open to a general audience. The festival is scheduled to include games, trick-or-treating, and a "spook alley" for attendees to enjoy.
Upcoming Arts and Crafts
In addition to the Halloween festivities, the library has scheduled a specialized arts and crafts session titled "Fun with Arts & Crafts Monster Stuffie" for Tuesday, Oct. 20. This event, which takes place from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Sandy Large Meeting Room, is designed specifically for children in the school-age and tween categories, specifically ages 6 to 11.
Children and Family Programming
The library's programming for the Sandy branch extends across a wide variety of interests and age groups. For younger children, the branch offers several storytime sessions, including Cuddle Time for babies and toddlers on Monday, Oct. 5 and Monday, Oct. 12, and Preschool Storytime on Tuesday, Oct. 6 and Tuesday, Oct. 13. The library also hosts a Family Storytime on Wednesday, Oct. 7 and Wednesday, Oct. 14, as well as a Preschool Playtime on Wednesday, Oct. 7 and Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Teen-Focused Activities
For teenagers, the library provides several specialized sessions. A Teen Book Club meeting regarding "The Carrefour Curse" by Dianne K. Salerni is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Sandy Study Room. Other teen-focused events include a "Teen Scene" session titled "How To Be A Ghost Hunter" on Wednesday, Oct. 7, and a "Teen Scene" event titled "Paint a Skull" on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
Adult Interest Groups
Adults and older teens can participate in various interest-based clubs. The library hosts the Tarot Guild on Saturday, Oct. 3, which allows members to learn, share, and practice with various decks. A Philosophy Club, which meets bimonthly for casual discussions regarding the history of ideas, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3. For those interested in writing, the Sandy Library Writers Group meets on Wednesday, Oct. 7, to provide a space for mutual support and craft honing.
Community Learning and Social Clubs
The library also facilitates community learning and social interaction through several other recurring programs. The Japanese Learners Club meets on Monday, Oct. 5 and Monday, Oct. 12 to discuss topics related to Japanese language learning. Additionally, the library hosts a Pokemon Club for fans to play games or trade cards, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, and a Math Club to provide tutoring and social opportunities for students and teens, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9.

The Sandy branch, located at 10100 S Petunia Way (1405 E), is managed by Darin Butler. The facility offers various meeting spaces, including the Large Meeting Room with a capacity of 80 and the Small Meeting Room with a capacity of 40. The library's standard operating hours for the week include 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays, with limited hours on Fridays and Saturdays, and the branch is closed on Sundays.
