A National Weather Service damage survey identified an EF1 tornado that occurred in the southern portion of Skull Valley in Tooele County on Aug. 13, 2026. The tornado produced peak winds estimated at 100 mph during the event.
The tornado began near Skull Valley Road and Lincoln Highway, where it caused the total failure of a well-constructed, structurally attached carport. During the event, numerous hardwood trees were snapped or uprooted around a nearby house. Damage to the main dwelling included shingle uplift and partial removal of roofing material, as well as broken windows.
Other structures, including sheds and outbuildings, experienced partial removal of roofing material and broken windows. The tornado moved northeast across a farm field, where it sheared and tossed irrigation equipment. Irrigation lines and wheels were lofted across the field and broken into shorter sections. Additionally, fence posts were found snapped and leaning toward the center of the tornado path.
The tornado path was estimated at 0.99 miles long with a maximum width of 300 yards when crossing Lincoln Highway. While the tornado moved into a sage brush and barren landscape where no further discernible damage could be inferred, the survey noted that confidence in the exact start and end points is lower than normal due to the natural landscape. No fatalities or injuries were reported from the event.
