Cedar City has released concept illustrations for the upcoming amenities at Fiddlers Canyon Park as construction continues on the site. Work on the park began at the end of June and is expected to conclude by spring 2027, according to a city press release.
The park is located at the intersection of Nichols Canyon Road and Main Street on the north end of Cedar City, near Fiddlers Canyon. The project has been in development for several years, moving forward on May 20 when the City Council approved a contract with PRT Builders LLC for a bid of approximately $1,349,689.
According to city spokesperson Mary Nelson, the budget for the first phase of the park is roughly $3 million. The planned amenities include a playground, pedestrian bridge, pavilions, a parking lot, and various wheelchair-accessible features. The designs for the park were created by Terracon and Big T Recreation with input from a committee of local residents.
Plans for the park include a rock feature made of glass fiber reinforced concrete that will reach 8 feet at its peak. Other planned features include a water feature, hummocking poles, and one of the longest slides in the state of Utah. The playground equipment will be provided by Earthscape and will consist of a natural wood product designed to be resistant to ultraviolet light.
The park is currently in phase 1, and future expansions are planned to move north across the pedestrian bridge. While features are being finalized, the equipment color scheme may change before construction ends in 2027.
