A first wave of one million free reservations for the Salt Lake Temple open house tour was claimed by people around the world in less than 24 hours, according to a September 2 report.
The announcement followed the introduction of the Rejoice in Christ theme and the online launch of free reservations.
The Salt Lake Temple Celebration was scheduled to run from April 5 through Oct. 1, 2027. The event was set to include the open house tour, exhibits, performances, volunteer opportunities, and other experiences centered on the faith.
Due to anticipated worldwide demand, tickets were scheduled to be released in batches leading up to 2027. Additional tickets were expected to be made available in the coming weeks and months to provide more opportunities for individuals, families, and groups to plan visits.
During the media event announcing the theme and ticket availability, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles stated that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a global church with a universal message of Jesus Christ. He noted gratitude for being in a community where they are welcome and invited people to come and see and love Jesus Christ and the people who come there.
Visitors were encouraged to monitor TempleSquare.org, the Temple Square app, the Temple Square email list, and official social media channels for updates regarding upcoming ticket releases. Many other Salt Lake Temple Celebration experiences throughout Temple Square were not required to have reservations.
