Willmeng Construction and the Davis School District celebrated the completion of the Burton Elementary School expansion and renovation project with a community ribbon-cutting ceremony. The project, which broke ground in January 2026, provided safety enhancements and modern learning environments for the Kaysville campus.
The 7,820-square-foot project featured a new administrative office suite, a redesigned secure vestibule, and a clearly identifiable main entrance intended to improve accessibility and security. Infrastructure improvements included seismic roof upgrades, replacements for aging HVAC units, and a modernized fire alarm system.
Willmeng donated funds to complete a redone courtyard and outdoor classroom after the feature was initially removed from the budget to maintain project costs. Willmeng Vice President Nick Slye described the courtyard and outdoor classroom as a must-have feature. Principal Jennifer Malan stated that the Willmeng team worked 15 to 20-hour days to prepare the school for opening.
The project team, which included MHTN Architects, managed challenges such as working within an occupied building and executing the school's seventh addition. The re-roofing with seismic upgrades and new mechanical systems was identified as the most challenging scope of work, requiring multiple crews to work over the summer break to meet an accelerated timeframe.
To address displaced classrooms during construction, Willmeng worked with the Davis School District to ensure portables were ready for the first day of school. Julie Powell, a member of the Davis School District Board, credited a community bond vote for providing the necessary funds to keep the school safe and functional.
Willmeng Project Manager Monica Hurst stated that the addition and remodel provides new opportunities for students to learn and build friendships within the new spaces.
