Utah has recorded more than 1,000 wildfires this year. “We’ve seen an influx of monsoonal moisture, which brings lightning,” Riddle said. ”State data shows roughly 600 fires this season have been caused by lightning. Investigators examine a fire’s point of origin, physical evidence, lightning activity, witness accounts, video and other information to rule out possible causes.
