USA Bobsled/Skeleton (USABS) announced a partnership on October 28, 2026, with 47G, Albany Engineered Composites, Hexcel, and Nammo Composite Solutions to bring aerospace and defense composite technology to American bobsled athletes. The announcement occurred at 47G’s annual Zero Gravity Summit, which was held as part of Hard Tech Week in Salt Lake City. The partnership was revealed during an event that took place on October 27.
The collaboration focuses on utilizing advanced materials and engineering expertise typically reserved for aircraft, missiles, and unmanned systems. Each partner will fulfill a specific role in developing next-generation equipment. Albany Engineered Composites will manufacture composite sled cowlings for four-man bobsleds, while Nammo will manufacture carbon-fiber cowlings for two-man bobsleds. Hexcel is contributing its expertise in advanced composite materials, and 47G, an organization for Utah's deep tech, aerospace, and defense companies, facilitated the partnership.
Aron McGuire, CEO of USA Bobsled/Skeleton, stated that the partnerships connect the team with world-class engineers and manufacturers located in Utah. He noted that the goal is to give athletes a competitive edge while building toward competing for medals on home ice in 2034. Jeff Daniel, vice president of the commercial segment at Albany Engineered Composites, said the opportunity allows the company to apply aerospace knowledge to a different performance challenge.
The partnership strengthens the connection between USABS and the state that will host the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. USABS athletes currently train and compete at Utah Olympic Park in Park City. Two-time USA Bobsled Olympian and 2025 Women’s Monobob World Champion Kaysha Love said that knowing aerospace engineers are working on their equipment provides confidence for the athletes.
Aaron Starks, president and CEO of 47G, said the partnership showcases Utah's ecosystem where advanced manufacturing, aerospace, research, and entrepreneurship intersect. This collaboration is intended to help showcase the technologies and talent helping shape the future of performance as the region prepares for 2034.
