A 22-year-old man wearing a mask inspired by the Scream film series has been arrested for vandalizing a community center in Virginia, according to a August 27 report.
Zion Gibbs was identified by detectives following a series of incidents at a homeowners community center in Lorton. The damages to the facility are estimated at approximately $8,000.
The incidents involving the Lorton Station community center began on July 9, 2026. Investigators stated that a masked suspect damaged the windows of the building on six separate occasions using stones, a hammer, and cement blocks.
Surveillance footage showed the suspect wearing a mask inspired by the horror movie Scream, a black robe, fluorescent gloves, and white shoes with fluorescent laces.
On August 17, detectives from the Franconia Police District's Criminal Investigation Division conducted a surveillance operation near the community center. At approximately 4:24 a.m., officers observed Gibbs, a resident of Lorton, walking in the area. Police reported that Gibbs returned to the location wearing the same clothing seen in previous incident footage.
Detectives stated they observed Gibbs picking up bricks and running toward the community center before he was detained.
Gibbs was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. He faces charges including three felonies for destruction of property, three misdemeanors for the same charge, and one charge related to wearing a mask in public. Gibbs was held without bond.
