Utah Valley University has released an independent review regarding its planning and response following the murder of Charlie Kirk, according to a September 28 report.
The review stated that no employee or agent of the university acted in bad faith or with willful and wanton disregard for safety during the events leading up to or following the assassination.
Despite finding no bad faith by employees, the review identified inconsistencies in university operations. It found the university was unprepared to host high-profile guests and failed to issue a campus-wide alert following the shooting.
To address these findings, the report recommends that the university improve its threat intelligence assessments and strengthen coordination with law enforcement.
The family of Charlie Kirk is responding to the release of the report. Earlier this month, the family filed a notice preserving their right to sue UVU, alleging security failures led to the murder.
Lawyer Brett Parkinson released a statement on Friday claiming the report supports the argument that UVU security was understaffed and unprepared for the risks of the event. Parkinson stated that accountability is required for the university's shortcomings.
