The United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, Washington County, and Hurricane City have announced the availability of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement and Warner Draw Watershed Supplemental Watershed Plan No. 10. This documentation pertains to the Gould Wash Flood Protection Project.
The preferred alternative for the project proposes improvements along Gould Wash through Hurricane City. Additionally, the plan includes the installation of a dry detention dam on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management located upstream of Hurricane City in Washington County.
The proposed project is designed to reduce flooding within Hurricane City. According to the announcement, the project aims to protect structures, people, property, public utilities, and transportation infrastructure from damage caused by floodwater.
A Draft Plan-EIS has been developed to document an evaluation of potential project alternatives and their associated environmental impacts.
A public meeting will be held to provide information regarding the proposed project and the Draft Plan-EIS analysis, as well as to collect public comments. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Hurricane Community Center Bryce Canyon Room, located at 63 South 100 West, Hurricane, UT 84737. A virtual option is also available.
Comments may be submitted during the meeting or directed to Anders Fillerup at the Utah State NRCS Office. To become part of the public record, all comments must be received by November 6, 2025.
Electronic copies of the Draft Plan-EIS can be downloaded from the NRCS Project website. Hard copies are available for review at the Hurricane City Office and the Hurricane Branch Library.
