Downtown Hurricane along State Street is experiencing significant expansion, according to a August 17 report. This growth includes new local eateries, entertainment venues, civic facilities, and community parks spanning from the State Street dip to the LaVerkin Bridge.
Several new dining and retail locations have opened or are under development along the main commercial strip. Golden West Credit Union has completed its new branch above the State Street dip, and Ernie’s 2 Convenience Store has reopened following a complete rebuild. In the Ace Hardware plaza, Back Nine Golf is now open offering indoor golf simulators, and Riggatti’s Woodfire Pizza has opened a new location. The Great Greek Mediterranean Grill is operating next door to Riggatti’s as the first Greek restaurant in Hurricane.
Other upcoming or ongoing projects include Slurpin’ Ramen, which is currently under construction in the Ace Hardware plaza, and Loop Bagels, a family-owned concept preparing to open in September 2026. A Culver’s is under construction on the former Buck’s Ace Hardware site in front of Hurricane High School. Near the LaVerkin Bridge, the newly opened Canyon Eatery is operating as an upscale-casual Italian steakhouse featuring a lounge bar.
Significant investments are also being made in entertainment and municipal infrastructure. Construction is moving quickly on the 40,000-square-foot Coral Cliffs Family Entertainment Center, which is expected to open in late September or early October 2026. This facility will include bowling lanes, an arcade, a virtual reality arena, mini golf, axe throwing, and a scratch kitchen.
Regarding municipal planning, city leaders have selected a design team for the Downtown City Center Master Plan, which includes building a new city hall and police station behind Lin’s Market. Construction for these facilities is scheduled to begin by the end of 2026 with an estimated completion in 2028. Additionally, framing is complete on a new building for Abundance Family Therapy behind Jimmy John’s, and signage has been placed for a new Silver Line Trailers commercial facility.
Hurricane City has also completed several park and recreation upgrades. The Hurricane Bike Park is now fully open to the public, and city officials have replaced the pickleball courts with eight post-tension slab courts featuring new lighting and shade canopies. A new four-court multi-use gymnasium with an indoor walking track has also been completed.
Ongoing community projects include the construction of the Hurricane Aquatic Center, which is expected to be completed in June 2027. Furthermore, construction is underway for a Veterans Memorial Park, and planning is active for a future skate park to be located adjacent to the new bike park.
These developments are part of broader commercial growth occurring across Washington County.
