Highland High secured a 45-30 victory over Viewmont on Friday, Aug. 28, according to an August 31 report by the Alpine-Highland-Lehi Tribune. The win at Highland High School in Salt Lake City served as a reversal of a 48-7 loss the team suffered to Viewmont last season.
Viewmont initially took control when quarterback Brett Tovey connected with Austin Cannon on a 16-yard touchdown pass. Highland responded with a 48-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Will Bauman to Adriean King Boyd to tie the game.
While Viewmont held a 21-14 lead into halftime following a rushing touchdown by Vili Ripley, Highland took control in the third quarter. The Rams outscored the Vikings 10-2 in that period to establish a 31-16 lead. Individual contributions included three touchdowns each from Will Bauman and Adriean King Boyd.
Head coach Kautai Olevao stated that his coaching staff had challenged the team to maintain intensity for four quarters following inconsistent second halves in previous games. These earlier games included a 42-21 Week 1 loss to Westlake and a 36-14 Week 2 win over Hunter. Olevao described the result as a positive win for the program as they head into region play.
Highland is scheduled to begin region play at home against Cottonwood on Friday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m.
