Three people died Friday afternoon on State Route 40 in Duchesne County following a head-on collision, according to a Saturday statement from the Utah Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:12 p.m. near milepost 82 and involved a westbound blue 2023 KIA 4-door hatchback and an eastbound black 2003 Peterbilt semi truck.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the semi truck drifted off the road to the right and struck a guardrail. The driver then over-corrected and crossed into westbound traffic, striking the KIA head-on.
All three occupants of the KIA were killed on impact. The victims identified at the scene included a 52-year-old female driver, a 42-year-old male front passenger, and an 18-year-old male rear seat passenger.
The driver of the semi truck was transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
