A petition has been launched in Orem to urge the UTA to provide a safer bus stop for children attending the UVU Wee Care Center. The initiative, supported by parents and affected members of the UVU community, seeks to improve transit accessibility for families using public transportation.
The petition states that current bus stops are inadequate due to their distance from the preschool and safety concerns. The Wee Care Center is located at the top of a steep hill, and the nearest existing stops are approximately one-half mile away.
Supporters note that extreme temperature swings in Utah County and frequent poor air quality make the walk difficult for children aged 2 to 4. Some community members have pointed out that the UVX bus route already passes through the area, and they are requesting that buses simply be permitted to stop at a proposed location without the need for new infrastructure.
Beyond safety concerns, petitioners argue that a closer stop would help reduce parking congestion at the university and provide more equitable transit options for low-income families and students. The petition also asks the University to work alongside the UTA to ensure the campus remains accessible for students traveling with small children.
