One TRAX rider was transported to a hospital and a second person was taken into police custody Wednesday morning following an altercation on the Blue line, according to a September 2 report from Gephardt Daily.
The incident began when an agitated man boarded a train at the 900 South 200 West station at approximately 8:30 a.m.
Gavin Gustafson, a spokesman for the Utah Transit Authority, stated the man was already worked up about something when he was confronted by another individual on the train. During the altercation, the suspect stabbed the victim twice, once in the arm and once in the upper abdomen.
Other passengers on the train held the suspect down until the train arrived at the 600 South station, where the Utah Transit Authority Police Department took the suspect into custody. The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
Blue line transportation experienced brief delays while another train was brought in to assist. Gustafson stated the incident appears to be an isolated and random situation with no larger threat to the public.
