The Salt Lake City Planning Commission is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 5:30 PM at the City and County Building. According to a September 1 agenda, the meeting will address several items including design reviews, zoning map amendments, and housing text amendments.
One item on the consent agenda involves a design review for Silo Park located at approximately 522 S 400 W. Jonathan Hardy, representing the property owner, is requesting a design review for a two-story retail building as part of the Silo Park mixed-use development. The request seeks to modify provisions for building entrances, ground floor glass, and the screening of service areas within the MU-11 zoning district to accommodate a music venue and orient pedestrian activity toward midblock walkways.
The regular agenda includes a zoning map amendment for properties at approximately 1379 and 1395 W Van Buren and 1384 W Harris. Jonathan Marsh is requesting to rezone these properties from R-1/7,000 to RMF-30 to allow for the construction of affordable, medium-density, for-sale housing. The Planning Commission previously reviewed this proposal on July 8, 2026, and tabled the decision for further staff analysis regarding proposed modifications to recommended conditions of approval.
The Commission will also consider a text amendment aimed at expanding housing options. This proposal, initiated by the Salt Lake City Council, seeks to update low-density residential districts by establishing zoning standards for Small Lot Dwellings. The amendment would affect the R-1, R-2, SR-1, SR-1A, Flag Lot, Definitions, and Table of Uses sections of the zoning ordinance, and may involve amendments to Title 21A-Zoning.
The meeting will include a works session for Chair and Vice-Chair elections. The session is scheduled to take place at 451 South State Street, Room 326, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
