One TRAX rider was transported to a hospital and a second person was taken into police custody Wednesday morning following an altercation on the Blue line, according to a September 2 report by Gephardt Daily.
According to Utah Transit Authority spokesman Gavin Gustafson, the incident began when an agitated man boarded a train at the 900 South 200 West station at approximately 8:30 a.m.
The man was confronted by another individual on the train, leading to an altercation. During the incident, the suspect stabbed the victim twice, once in the arm and once in the upper abdomen, Gustafson stated.
Other passengers on the train held the suspect down until the vehicle arrived at the 600 South station, where UTAPD boarded and took the suspect into custody. The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries that officials did not believe were life-threatening.
Blue line transportation experienced brief delays during the incident while another train was brought in. Gustafson stated the incident appears to be an isolated and random situation with no larger threat to the public.
