R. McConnell Group PLLC has opened a new office in Park City, Utah, according to an October 21 statement. The trial firm, which represents companies, boards, and executives in high-stakes cases, handles criminal defense, civil litigation, investigations, and governance matters.
The firm's expansion follows a significant legal victory in United States v. Rovirosa, which was the Trump Justice Department's first cartel FCPA case. In April 2026, a federal judge in Houston dismissed the indictment and acquitted the client on all counts, marking the only post-verdict ruling in an FCPA case granted on constitutional grounds and one of four post-verdict acquittals in the history of the FCPA. The firm took the client from indictment to a jury trial in four months by challenging the case on various constitutional grounds. The Justice Department has since appealed the judgment to the Fifth Circuit, where the firm is leading the defense.
Founder Ryan McConnell, a trial lawyer and law professor who has tried nearly twenty federal jury cases, stated that the firm seeks clients who need lawyers to stand up in court and win. The firm's team includes Matthew Boyden, a former federal prosecutor with over thirty years of experience, and Lawrence "Larry" Finder, a former U.S. Attorney in Houston who began his career on the prosecution team for the John Wayne Gacy trial in Chicago. The three lawyers have worked together in and out of government for nearly twenty years.
In addition to its recent FCPA success, the firm's recent work includes representing former Corsa Coal executive Charles Hunter Hobson after his FCPA conviction in Pittsburgh, serving as the court-approved independent compliance consultant to the National Rifle Association, and working on the trial team for the Blue Bell Creameries board-oversight litigation in the Delaware Court of Chancery. In Park City, the firm is currently representing nearly thirty Prospector Square small businesses pro bono in a land-use dispute with the City.
R. McConnell Group PLLC maintains offices in both Park City, Utah, and The Woodlands, Texas.
