Canyons School District announced that applications for the Supporting Advanced Learners Toward Achievement (SALTA) magnet program were scheduled to open on Sept. 8. The program is designed for students in kindergarten through seventh grade who exhibit exceptional cognitive abilities.
According to a notice from the school district, the application process for the 2027-2028 school year was scheduled to close at midnight on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026. The district stated that late applications would not be accepted.
SALTA coordinator Halley Kirk said that the program allows students to explore subjects in greater depth with teachers specially trained to work with gifted students, providing a space where children are challenged to reach their potential.
SALTA magnet classrooms are currently located at Peruvian Park Elementary, Sunrise Elementary, and Midvale Middle.
After submitting an application, parents are told they will receive an email containing information regarding testing times and locations. The district encouraged parents to review testing requirements before applying due to the rigorous nature of the assessment process.
