Seth Sperry Chappell of Lyman, Utah, passed away peacefully at his home on September 1, 2026, according to a September 2 report. Chappell, who was 92 years old, died following a battle with colon cancer.
Born on May 29, 1934, to Alvin Sperry Chappell and Lydia Okerlund Chappell, Seth Chappell was a teacher and farmer. He attended Wayne High School, Snow College, and Utah State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree.
Chappell served in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion. He also served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas-Louisiana Mission. He was married to Ardeen Davenport on August 28, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Ardeen; four children, Roger Chappell (Effie), Pam Perry (Steve), Lori Syme (Rick), and Scott Chappell (Cassie); 22 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Rulon Chappell of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Funeral services were scheduled for 12:00 NOON on September 12, 2026, at the Lyman LDS Ward Chapel. A viewing was set for 10:00 - 11:30 A.M. prior to the services. Burial with military honors provided by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 and Utah Honor Guard was planned for Lyman Cemetery.
