A driver was arrested Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, following a fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a pedestrian in South Salt Lake on Friday night, according to reports from Gephardt Daily.
Fatal Incident at 900 West
South Salt Lake Police responded to the scene near 3200 South and 900 West around 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, after receiving a call regarding a person lying in the roadway, South Salt Lake Police spokesman Shaun Ward told Gephardt Daily. Upon arrival, first responders discovered an adult man lying in the road. Personnel from the South Salt Lake Fire Department pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Driver Taken Into Custody
Investigators determined the man had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene immediately following the collision, Ward said. While the driver's identity had not been released as of Saturday morning, Sept. 12, 2026, police successfully located the vehicle and took the driver into custody.
Investigation and Road Closures
The investigation involved coordination between the South Salt Lake Major Accident Team and Salt Lake County CAR. As a result of the investigation, police closed 900 West from 3100 South to 3300 South for approximately four hours. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, Ward said.
