The event, designed to honor both America’s founding and Utah’s pioneer heritage, will culminate in a fireworks display on Utah Lake on Pioneer Day.

The celebration marks 250 years since America’s founding and honors pioneers past and present—from Utah’s early settlers to today’s entrepreneurs, educators, farmers, first responders, and public servants.
It’s a community-driven, countywide celebration born from a spirit of cooperation among state and local agencies, elected officials, first responders, county staff, businesses, sponsors, and residents.
Origin of Utah County’s America 250 Pioneer Day Celebration:
Every tradition has an origin story. This one began during Utah’s driest summer in memory, when a statewide fireworks ban sought to protect lives and public lands. Yet the idea of celebrating resilience and community persisted.
“Pioneer Day is about remembering the courage and determination of those who came before us while celebrating the incredible place we get to call home. This event will give families across Utah County a memorable way to celebrate together and enjoy a truly spectacular show.” said Lehi City Councilwoman Emily Lockhart, who helped spark the plan.
Commissioner Skyler Beltran, Representative Stephanie Gricius and staff at the Utah Lake Authority joined Lockhart to reframe the moment. They envisioned a countywide celebration that would unite families from every corner of Utah County while honoring both our nation’s founding and Utah’s pioneer heritage.
“This all came together very quickly and will be a great community event that brings people to Utah Lake. A big thank you to the many businesses that helped make this possible, as well as the tremendous collaboration between our city, county and state partners,” - Beltran said.
What followed was an extraordinary collaboration. State and local agencies, elected officials, first responders, public safety personnel, county staff, businesses, sponsors, and countless citizens contributed time, expertise, and resources to make the celebration possible. The effort demonstrated that when a community rallies around a common purpose, remarkable things can happen.
The event honors the courage of the pioneers who settled Utah and the visionaries who founded the United States. It also recognizes today’s pioneers: entrepreneurs, educators, innovators, farmers, first responders, public servants, and families who continue to build thriving communities and expand opportunity for the next generation.
“As we celebrate Pioneer Day and America’s 250th anniversary, Fireworks at Utah Lake gives us an opportunity to come together as one community and celebrate the history, freedom, and pioneering spirit that have shaped both our state and our nation. This is the first year of what we hope will become a beloved Utah County tradition for generations to come, a night when families and neighbors from across the county gather around Utah Lake and celebrate together,” said Utah House of Representatives Stephanie Gricius.
That phone call between the three leaders on July 6 did more than launch an event. It launched a tradition built on the belief that even when circumstances change, Americans respond the way they always have: by coming together, solving problems, and creating something worthy of passing on.
Because America’s story has never been defined by what stands in its way. It has always been defined by what its people build together.

Can I watch from my boat? Yes. Boats are encouraged, but please follow all safety rules, including navigation lights, as it will be dark. The marinas will be charging their normal rates; check water levels before putting your boat in. The best location to watch from water is the western launch area near Saratoga Springs.
Can I watch from my paddleboard? No. Current laws do not allow non-motorized vessels on the lake after dark.
Best viewing from shore? The American Fork Marina is the primary spot, followed by Lindon Marina. Bring a blanket or chair and stay hydrated—it's going to be warm.
On-water viewing? If you’re joining on the water, head to the western launch areas for optimal views.
