New Girls' Basketball Head Coach Announcement: Alexis Kaufusi
We are excited to announce Alexis Kaufusi as the new head coach of our girls' basketball program. Kaufusi brings an impressive combination of collegiate playing experience, proven success as a head coach, and more than a decade of experience developing high school basketball players and programs. A former collegiate athlete at BYU, Kaufusi competed from 2008–2012 before beginning her coaching career, serving in both assistant and head coaching roles at Timpview, Copper Hills, Mountain View, and Wethersfield High Schools. As head coach at Mountain View High School from 2015–2019, Kaufusi led her teams to two region championships, three state tournament appearances, and earned 2017 4A Coach of the Year honors. She most recently served as head coach at Wethersfield High School during the 2022–2023 season after previously working as an assistant there.
Kaufusi’s basketball roots run deep. Before playing collegiately at BYU, she starred at Timpview High School from 2004–2008, helping lead the program to a 2007 state championship and four state tournament appearances. She was named 2008 4A MVP and earned First Team All-State honors in 2006 and 2008. Throughout her coaching career, Kaufusi has also played an important role in developing athletes who went on to compete at the NCAA Division I level, including Tahlia White, Danja Stafford, Skye Lindsay, and Sami Suguturanga.
With the experience of both a Division I athlete and successful head coach, Kaufusi understands what it takes to develop players and build a program prepared to compete at a high level. Her coaching philosophy emphasizes player development, accountability, basketball IQ, team culture, and strong relationships, with a focus on creating an environment where athletes are challenged to grow both on and off the court. Her goal is to develop not only better basketball players, but confident competitors and leaders who understand the value of teamwork, commitment, and representing their program with pride.
We are thrilled to welcome Alexis Kaufusi to the program and look forward to the energy, experience, leadership, and vision she will bring to our student-athletes and the future of our girls' basketball program.
