The Wasatch High School Air Force JROIMG Academic Bowl team has qualified for the national championship in Washington, D.C., making it the only Utah JROTC unit to reach the competition this June.
Impressive national qualification achievement
The team secured its place in the national finals by placing in the top 16 out of more than 700 Air Force JROTC teams. The competition, known as the JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl (JLAB), is an all-service national event that brings together the top 3% of JROTC programs nationwide.
Details of competition format
The JLAB competition features various challenges including the Leadership Gauntlet, which uses timed stations with curriculum-based questions, and the Academic Bowl, which focuses on critical thinking and team performance. The Level III Championship is held at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
Fundraising needs for travel costs
While major expenses such as airfare, lodging, and competition meals are covered, the Wasatch High School unit is currently seeking donations to fund additional costs. These include travel meals, team polos, museum fees, and metro cards.
Goal for the fundraising effort
The fundraising effort, organized by Lt Col (ret) Andy Benson, aims to reach a $600 goal to support the cadets as they represent their school and state.
