Two people were taken to the hospital early Friday morning, July 31, 2026, after a small plane crashed near Highway 193 and Fort Lane in Layton.
The aircraft went down shortly before midnight, according to Layton fire officials. Both the pilot and a passenger were able to exit the plane on their own before being taken to a local area hospital by medical crews.
The two individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are reported to be in stable condition. Officials stated there were no signs of post-crash fires, and first responders were able to secure the plane and address concerns regarding a fuel spill.
Sgt. Teague with the Layton Police Department said investigators believe the plane took off from Ogden, though they were unsure of the intended destination. The aircraft was reportedly attempting to reach a Hill Air Force Base runway but did not arrive. Investigators noted the pilot attempted an emergency landing in a field across the street, but wind may have been a factor that caused the plane to crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have responded and are leading the investigation into the crash.
The highway was closed while emergency crews investigated and cleared the scene, but all roadways have since reopened.
