A woman died and two others were injured, including a toddler, after a horse and buggy was struck from behind on a highway in Highland County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred on U.S. Route 50 near Route 753 in Paint Township at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Troopers reported that a GMC Sonoma struck the carriage from behind while it was traveling southwest on Route 50.
Melinda Coblentz, 49, of Greenfield, was driving the carriage and died as a result of the crash.
Two passengers in the carriage, a 17-year-old and a 2-year-old from Greenfield, sustained injuries that were not considered serious. According to highway patrol, both individuals were flown to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
The driver of the GMC Sonoma was not injured.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol stated that the investigation into the crash is ongoing. No citations have been announced.
