City Journals launched its second annual social media pet contest on August 4, 2026, inviting local residents to submit photos of their pets for a chance to be featured in the publication's September edition. The competition aims to identify the cutest pets across the various communities served by the news organization.
Contest Details and Past Winners
The contest, as reported by the South Salt Lake Journal, offers participants the opportunity to see their pets' images printed in a dedicated special Pet section within the next monthly edition. Winners will also receive bragging rights for their successful entries.
This year's competition follows the success of the 2025 contest, which saw Dax, a pet owned by Kristi Dancer, named as the winner. Dancer described Dax as the family's "baby boy" and "BGB" (Big Giant Boy), noting that he is a "snuggle boy and best little brother."
Submission Requirements
To participate in the competition, pet owners must provide a specific set of information and media. Submissions are required to include up to two photos of the pet, the name of the human entrant, the name of the pet, and one brief fun fact about the animal that does not exceed 50 words.
How to Enter
The City Journals has provided two distinct methods for residents to enter the contest. Participants may choose to respond directly to social media posts on the organization's official channels, @thecityjournals, by uploading their submissions as comments. Alternatively, owners may email their entries directly to pets@thecityjournals.com.
Important Deadlines
The deadline for all entries is Sunday, August 9, 2026. The winning photos are scheduled to be published in the September monthly edition, which is expected to arrive in mailboxes during the first week of September.
