Provo City issued a scam alert in a statement published September 23 regarding fraudulent phone calls targeting residents. According to the city, callers are impersonating members of the Provo City Planning Commission to solicit money.
The scams involve callers claiming that residents owe unpaid or underpaid city fees. These individuals then request payment over the phone. Provo City clarified that the city does not call to solicit any payments via telephone.
Officials advised residents not to provide payment or personal information if they receive such a call. If someone has already provided payment information, they should contact their bank or card issuer immediately and visit provo.gov/police to file a report.
