Hurricane City crews are scheduled to apply slurry seal to local streets over the next two weeks. This maintenance effort is designed to help maintain and extend the life of city roads.
According to Mayor Fawcett, this protective black coating will remain sticky for a short period following application. Residents are advised to avoid driving on freshly treated roads until they have completely dried and should watch for crews and temporary closures in affected areas.
The city also provided an update regarding fireworks for Pioneer Day. According to the Utah State Forester, fire conditions have improved somewhat since the Fourth of July due to increased humidity, recent moisture, cooler temperatures, and additional firefighting resources, which have reduced fire risk in many areas.
As previously approved by the City Council earlier this spring, fireworks will be permitted at the following pre-approved locations:
• Spilsbury Ballpark
• American Legion Ballpark
• Three Falls Park
• Dixie Springs Park
Officials requested that residents discharge fireworks only at these designated locations and use only legal, state-approved fireworks for personal use.
Residents should note that the legal dates for fireworks use around Pioneer Day changed a few years ago. Fireworks are now only legal on July 22, 23, 24, and 25 for the holiday.
