Nebo School District has initiated a formal study to evaluate the potential closure of Wilson Elementary in Paysments and Cherry Creek Elementary in Springville. The district stated that the study is driven by long-term declining enrollment patterns and a strategic effort to better utilize facilities and resources.
The study follows an announcement made on March 11, 2026. While the process is underway, the closure for Cherry Creek Elementary is currently on hold for further review.
A timeline has been established for the potential school closures. Following the initial announcement in March 2026, a notice of public hearing for Wilson Elementary is scheduled for August 2026, followed by a notice for Cherry Creek Elementary in September 2026. Public hearings are slated to take place at Wilson Elementary in September 2026 and at Cherry Creek Elementary in October 2026.
The district expects a final board determination in December 2026. If the closures are approved, the schools would close in May 2027.
The district has also outlined a timeline for potential boundary realignments. A board resolution for these realignments is expected in November 2026, with a notice of public hearing in December 2026. Public hearings regarding boundaries are scheduled for January 2027, followed by board action that same month. If necessary, new boundaries would be implemented in August 2027.
