Governor Spencer Cox and Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson issued a joint statement condemning a letter sent to Salt Lake County Republican Party delegates on March 26, 2021. The officials stated they were deeply offended by the communications, describing the behavior as reprehensible.
During late March 2021, Governor Cox engaged in significant legislative activity. On March 25, the Governor signed four bills, bringing the total number of signed pieces of legislation from the 2021 General Legislative Session to 464. These included HB 2 Public Education Budget Amendments and HB 3 Current Fiscal Year Supplemental Appropriations.
Prior to that, on March 24, the Governor signed four bills and vetoed three others, which brought the session's total signed legislation to 460. Signed bills on that date included HB 220 Pretrial Detention Amendments and HB 294 Pandemic Emergency Powers Amendments.
In relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, officials reported that 1,232,991 vaccine doses had been administered. It was noted that Governor Cox and First Lady Abby Palmer Cox received their first vaccines. Under the newly enacted H.B. 294, mask requirements remain in place for K-12 settings.
The Governor's office noted that schedules for the Governor and Lt. Governor are subject to change due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The administration has utilized social media, including Facebook Live, to provide legislative reviews and coronavirus updates to the public.
